Greek ball basil sometimes called Compact Dwarf Basil has an intense, delicate and strongly aromatic smell. The plant forms a perfect sphere composed of very small, very fragrant green leaves. It is collected and eaten fresh in order to maintain its smell and aroma. Basil is harvested by cutting or delicately cutting the upper part of the stem so that the plant will subsequently have the strength to form new lateral shoots and produce new leaves to be used; therefore, never detach the leaves from the stem to always have beautiful and healthy plants. In the kitchen the recipes are numerous, it is eaten individually chopped to prepare the ” Genoese pesto “”, or together with other ingredients such as salad salad. Basil, as well as fresh, can also be preserved in oil or frozen.

Cultivation: it prefers medium-mix soils, rich in organic and irrigable substances. Basil suffers from low temperatures (those below 14-15 ° C lead to stunting), in fact it prefers a temperate-warm climate but with temperatures not higher than 30 ° C. We recommend an exposure in places of partial shade, protected from direct sunlight, as for example in window sills. The transplant in the ground or in larger pots is carried out when the roots cover all the underlying substrate.

Irrigation : Basil requires abundant irrigation during the good season, but without stagnations which facilitate infections of fungal diseases of the soil; water stress leads to yellowing of the leaves. In periods of low light, the irrigation supplies must be moderate in order not to favor excess humidity and keep the plants compact.

Aeration : very important both in the open field and under protection as abundant ventilation limits fungal infections

Transplanting distance: between plants leave 20-25 cm.
