Cuminum cyminum L. Umbelliferae
Flowering: late spring; small, white or pink flowers.
Part used : the fruits, improperly called “seeds”, are used as a spice.
Aroma : characteristic bitter taste and strong and sweetish smell due to the high content of essential oils.
Use: used to season many dishes; it is a fundamental ingredient of curry, chili and guacamole. The seeds in hot milk are a cure-all against colds.
Property:stimulants, carminatives and antimicrobials. Stimulates the secretion of pancreatic juices (for proper digestion). Powerful ability to purify free radicals (prevents tumors of the stomach and liver). Rich in iron and therefore suitable for the diets of women in the menstrual period, for children and pregnant women or in the lactation phase. Useful for fighting halitosis.
Harvesting: the seeds must be harvested when they are ripe. The inflorescences are cut as soon as they turn yellow and the seeds are separated from the stems by beating and dried in a dry and ventilated room for a few days and then stored in jars or paper bags.
Indications for cultivation
Exposure : full sun; indoors place in bright areas.
Planting sixth : 40-60 cm between the rows and 20-25 cm in the row.
